Tension, Anxiety, Stress - Serenity Massage Glasgow

The ‘stress hormone’ Cortisol is vital for your health, but like anything in your body, if Cortisol is out of balance it can cause you to experience negative symptoms. Chronically high stress-hormone levels are accepted as a factor in increased illnesses and number of sick days.

Just to explain a bit more about this hormone Cortisol.

It is produced by your adrenal glands. It has many important functions! It helps your body to respond to stress or danger. It aids in the metabolism of glucose. Controls blood pressure, has a role in reducing inflammation and you sleep - wake cycle.

If you are in on-going stressful situations that cause frustration and anxiety, over time your cortisol levels can stay chronically high. Things like having a stressful difficult job or having a chronic illness can cause long term stress. You may start to experience symptoms.

Symptoms of Stress can include

Weight Gain

Muscle Weakness/Aches & Pains/Headaches

Low Energy

Unfocused/Cloudy Thinking

Racing Thoughts

Anxiety

High Blood Sugar

Sleep Issues

Changes to Period/Menstrual Cycle

How can massage help reduce the stress response in the body?

Massage has been demonstrated to lower the stress response in the body by taking your nervous system into a relaxation response, which will lower your cortisol levels. Having a massage will lower your heart rate, relax your muscles and help your body release serotonin and endorphins (the feel good chemicals) This can reduce any pain you may be feeling, reduce emotional stress and improve any other symptoms you may be experiencing.

Massage can help release emotional stress and many people say they feel ‘lighter’, their mood has improved or that they have more clarity in their thinking.

What treatment should I book?

I offer quite a few treatments that can help promote relaxation.

Relaxation Massage - This is usually a medium pressure (or can also be light or deeper pressure - if that is your preference) massage. I tailor the treatment to you and can also use some aromatherapy oil to further aid relaxation and healing benefits.

Head Massage - This treatment is focused on shoulders, neck, head and optionally the face. It is great if you have tension in these areas, experience headaches or just like having your head massaged!

Hot Stone Massage - In this treatment I will use heated stones to massage your muscles, the heat helps promote a deep nurturing treatment.

Reiki - This is an energy treatment rather than a physical massage treatment. Many people find they relax very deeply and feel less stressed after having it.

Thai Foot Massage - This is great if you don’t fancy having a full massage or you haven’t tried massage before and would like to test it out and great for sore feet. It is also a very relaxing treatment, so this is why I have added it here as a treatment to promote relaxation.
